Fluorescent Sodaliteis an Igneous Syenite rock that formed deep beneath the Earth's surface as molten magma slowly cooled and crystallized over millions of years. During its formation, the rock incorporated Sodalite, a mineral that naturally fluoresces a brilliant orange under ultraviolet (UV) light. Although the stone appears gray with black and white patterns in daylight, its hidden fluorescence is revealed when exposed to a UV blacklight.
This material was collected along the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (the "U.P.")
